HISD received a report from a student at the Middle School campus today that they had heard about and had seen a threat to the campus posted on social media. We immediately took this report seriously and conducted a thorough investigation to determine the credibility of the threat. After a detailed investigation involving a number of students and staff, we have found that the threat was unfounded and there is no evidence that there was ever any danger to our school or students. We take all threats seriously and are committed to ensuring the safety of our students and staff. We appreciate everyone who cooperated with this investigation and want to remind all students that if they ever hear or see anything that causes them concern, they should immediately report it to a trusted adult. It is important that we work together as a community to maintain a safe and secure environment for all. If you have any questions or concerns please reach out to your campus principal. Thank you for your continued partnership in keeping our school safe.

All campuses are currently following their normal schedules at this time. While students on all campuses did shelter in place earlier during the tornado warning for the city of Henderson, students returned to their classes once the danger passed. We are continuing to watch weather conditions closely and will update if necessary.

Earlier today a number of Henderson Middle School students reported to campus administrators that last Friday they overheard another student making threats against students and the campus. Administrators, working with both campus resource officers and the local police department, immediately began investigating the incident. It was quickly determined there was no current or prior danger to any HISD students or staff. The campus was not placed in “lock-down” and the planned schedule for this week has not changed. Unfortunately, many false rumors have been circulating concerning the reports. A complete investigation is ongoing and many of the specific details of the incident remain confidential. However, we would like to thank the students who, in an effort to keep people safe, came forward to make reports. The safety of all our students and staff remains our highest priority and HISD will continue to enforce all appropriate disciplinary measures whenever their safety is threatened.

Henderson ISD Trustees have named Dea Henry the district’s new Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum and Instruction. Henry, who has served as a principal at both Henderson High School and Northside Elementary, brings to the role several years of administrative and teaching experience. Henry’s promotion not only fills a vacancy left by the departure of Dr. Stephanie Bonneau, who recently accepted a position at Mansfield ISD, it also triggered a series of moves in campus leadership at the high school and middle school. The board named Shannon Dickerson as the new Henderson High School principal and Russell Wylie as principal of Henderson Middle School. Dickerson was serving as HMS principal and Wylie as an assistant principal at the high school.

HISD Families, Like you, we are shocked and deeply saddened by the news of the shooting at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas on Tuesday. We share in the heartbreak we are all feeling for the families who have lost a loved one due to this senseless act of violence. School should and must be a place where students feel completely safe and secure. As an added precaution, we are working with our local law enforcement officials to have an increased police presence in and around our buildings for the rest of the week. We know that children and teens will process this news in different ways. Counselors are available at each of our school buildings to assist students who may need some extra support. We strongly encourage any students to stop by the counseling office at any time. Please join us in keeping the students, staff, and families of the Uvalde Consolidated Independent School District in our thoughts and prayers at this time. Respectfully, Dr. Thurston B. Lamb, Jr. Superintendent Henderson ISD

While rain is causing some flooding and power outages in portions of Rusk County, all HISD campuses are open. We know some staff and students live in or must drive through the areas impacted by last night’s storms and encourage all to be cautious when traveling this morning.
